My local town of May's Lick (7 miles down the road) is known for its agricultural festival celebrating the most wonderful spring vegetable, ASPARAGUS!
May 15th, 10 am - 6 pm. Rain or Shine!
Every third Saturday in May, the whole town comes together to eat asparagus in every form and it's all locally grown in Kentucky. This year's festival is May 15th in downtown May's Lick. (10 miles South of Maysville, Ky at Rt.68& Rt. 324). Festivities start at 10 am and go all day until 6 pm.
From the Asparagus Art Show to the May's Lick Taste of Asparagus and the Aparagus Hall of Fame, there's a full day of entertainment, education, feasting and merry making. There is even a farm in downtown May's Lick growing asparagus!
Here is the list of events so far:
Artists & Craftsmen, Farmers and Homemakers: all selling their wares, in the square and on the lawn. Everything Asparagus and otherwise!
Asparagus Available! Fresh, locally grown by farmers in the area, plus asparagus plants, crowns and seeds. Plus, the info on how to grow and maintain this long lived perennial plant. Childrens Carnival activities, lots to do all day long. Rides, games, fun and food.
Asparagus Gift Shop offers asparagus in all its glory and in many uses. Souvenirs and posters, aprons, hats and pins!
Asparagus Gallery opens for viewing of Art Show & Exhibition in the Presbyterian Church. Artists from all over create works of art including Asparagus in any way. From humerous to serious, the art will open your eyes to a new view of the vegetable. see www.mayslick.com for entry form.

Dance Performances in the square
11:00-3:00 pm May's Lick Taste of Asparagus. Local culinary artists tempt your taste buds with everything asparagus! The many fine cooks in the May's Lick area prepare locally grown asparagus in a variety of recipes. Presented as a tasting of everything from soup to salad and dessert.

Tractor Show (Antique and New)
Asparagus Production Seminar. Meet in the downtown Burrwal Asparagus Farm, learn to grow and maintain your patch of asparagus. Plants and seeds available.
3:00pm Asparagus Art Show winners announced in the square.
4:00 pm Asparagus Parade through town. Featuring floats, horses, antique cars, tractors, lawnmowers, bicycles and everyone in town.
5:00 pm - The Asparagus Bed Races in downtown. Locals compete for the travelling asparagus bed trophy made by local artist Ann LeGris.
